Regular Exams and Cleanings

You should see your dentist at least every six months to maintain optimal oral health. At these visits, Drs. Catherman will do an extensive and thorough exam to make sure there is no oral pathology. During these exams, the doctor will check your teeth for:

  • Decay (cavities)
  • Fractures
  • Abscesses
  • Adequately fitting crowns and/or  leaking crowns and fillings
  • Occlusion (bite)/ high spots on fillings

The doctor will then read x-rays for:

  • Decay
  • Abscesses
  • Cysts or granulomas
  • Periodontal disease
  • Cancers
  • Impacted teeth
  • Other forms of pathology

The doctor will then examine gums, tongue, and surrounding soft tissues for:

  • Gingivitis/gum disease
  • Periodontal pockets
  • Abscesses
  • Unusual discoloration in gums and all soft tissue that is a sign of disease
  • Oral cancer
  • Ulcers

Your doctor will determine how frequently you will need exams and x-rays based on your present oral health, your age, and your risk for disease. After examining your mouth and x-rays, your doctor will set up a treatment plan for your current oral health needs. Each treatment plan is individualized and based on several different factors tailored to specific patient requirements. The Drs. Catherman will work with you to develop a plan that fits your needs and comfort level while recommending a plan that optimizes oral health.
